Defensive Pistol

Defensive Pistol Chair: John Pashain -

Defensive Pistol is a recreational shooting event designed to test and improve individual shooting skills that could be used in self-defense situations. These shoots are not just about precision and accuracy, but also about the shooter's ability to make quick decisions, manage stress, and effectively handle a firearm under conditions that might simulate real-life defensive scenarios. The competitions involve courses of fire that require shooters to engage various targets and may include moving targets, multiple target engagements, shooting from cover, reloading under time pressure, and even shooting with the non-dominant hand.

The purpose of defensive pistol shoots are to help shooters develop and hone the skills necessary for self-defense situations, such as drawing from a holster, shooting accurately under stress, and making tactical decisions under pressure. Matches are conducted in a safe and controlled environment under the supervision of trained Chief Range Safety Officers.

Participating in defensive pistol shoots can offer numerous benefits, including improving one's shooting skills, learning how to operate a firearm under pressure, and gaining a better understanding of self-defense tactics. Moreover, it provides a supportive community where shooters can share knowledge, experiences, and encourage one another in skill development.

Defensive Pistol is held on the 3rd Sunday of every month, pending adverse weather conditions.
