NCRGC Defensive Pistol:

NCR&GC Defensive Pistol discipline is dedicated to furthering the defensive shooting and gun handling skill of our match participants. We accomplish this by providing an informal and relaxed environment in which all match participants may seek the knowledge and advice of other individuals that have the same interest.

Please note, Non NCRGC members attending the match can not use other range facilities while at the match.

Note - Shotgun range will be closed during the times in Defensive Pistol, Steel Challenge, or IDPA matches are held.

NCRGC Defensive Pistol Safety:

We stress safety beyond all other principles of shooting, followed by technique and accuracy. We offer a wide variety of shooting challenges, designed to simulate many real and unreal situations to create a unique, enjoyable, and challenging shooting experience.

Just as a reminder, we run a Cold Range

This means that once you leave your vehicle the gun must be unloaded with magazine completely empty and the hammer must be down".

NO gun handling in the range area before or after the match. Only place that pistols can be handled is at the "Safe Handling Area", at your car, or at the line under the supervision of a safety officer.

Put your pistol on your hip at your car, and unload your pistol before walking through the gate at the "Action Range". This is known as cold range rules. If the Match Director or one of the designated line officers, witnesses this rule being broken, you'll be disqualified from the Match.

Participation Requirements:

  • If you are a first-time shooter, print out and sign the defensive pistol waiver and bring it with you to the match.
  • $10 match fee.
  • Eye and ear protection and 200+ rounds of ammo.
  • Practical handgun(s) and holsters - and 3 magazines or speed loaders.
  • All equipment regulations and competition rules are available at the Official IDPA website, under the Competition Rule Book. It is highly recommended reading to prepare you for this form of competition.
  • Defensive Pistol rules vary from IDPA rules in that you can load magazines to capacity and carry unlimited magazines. Need not shoot to slide lock but must retain a magazine that still has rounds.
  • No concealment garment necessary.
  • Commissioned police and law enforcement officers and active-duty military personnel may use their standard-issue duty gear.
  • Both IDPA targets and steel (minimal) are used in this match.
  • Round counts per stage can be up to 35 rounds.
  • All steel stages are sometimes used.
  • All shooters must attend the shooter meeting.
  • The Minimum Age 12 years old, anyone between 12 and 18 must have parental supervision and must sign a waiver form for the minor". "In addition Safety Officers will evaluate the minors gun handling skills prior to the match to further determine eligibility.
